Herta (Hertha) Hansen, 92, of Cicero died Friday at Birchwood Healthcare Center. She resided for the last 70 years on Rt. 11 in the Cicero area. She was born in Germany and was raised on a farm on Woodchuck Hill Road in Jamesville. She graduated from Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. For nearly 20 years she and her husband owned and operated the family business, a large scale poultry farm in Cicero. She later worked at J.M. Fields Department Store as a department manager. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero. Mrs. Hansen was an excellent gardener and was known for her Iris collection. She crocheted, sewed, and enjoyed many artistic pursuits, and was a devoted, caring mother. She was predeceased by her husband, Junius, and her sons, John and James.
She is survived by her daughter; Alice (Earl) Huntley of North Syracuse, three sons; Frank of Mattydale, Edward of Cicero and William (Karen) of Camillus; two sisters, Erna Leary of Port Byron and Marianne Parrow of Heathsville, VA.; ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
