Herbert Eugene Johnson

Herbert Eugene Johnson, 71, of Dewitt, NY, originally from Dothan, Alabama, passed away on February 21, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose kindness and wisdom touched the lives of many. He was predeceased by his parents Estelle and Herbert Johnson of Alabama.

Herb is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Yvonne Johnson, four children: Dezondria Graham, Tunisia (Shawn) Gibbs, Isaiah (Stephany) Johnson, and Jordan Johnson, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren – Marquise Barwick, Danae Graham, Morgan Tatum, Elijah Johnson, Lael Gibbs, and two more precious blessings on the way—who adored their "Old School Alabama", brothers Bobby (Linda) Johnson, Dwain (Joetta) Johnson, Carl (Karen) Johnson, Jerome “Curt” (Felicia) Johnson, one sister Priscilla (King) Hammond, a close cousin Beverly (Jerome) Palmer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Herb dedicated over 30 years to UPS before retiring. He made it his mission to speak to every customer and build meaningful relationships within the community. His warm greetings and friendly conversations left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. 

A passionate sports fan, Herb was a huge Alabama Crimson Tide supporter, a die-hard New York Knicks fan, and a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers devotee.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Bethany Baptist Church 149 Beattie Street in Syracuse, NY. Calling hours are from 10 AM to 12 PM with the service immediately following. The burial will be at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Kinne Rd, Dewitt, NY.
