Henry Gaspe

Henry Gaspe, 84, passed away November 2, 2010.
A Mohawk Indian from the turtle clan, he was born in Oka, Quebec, Canada, where he played professional lacrosse and was a member of the Canadian army. In 1945, at the age of 19, Henry moved to Syracuse, NY and started a long career with Morris Distribution and in his later years with the Post Standard. The athlete in Henry never subsided as he took up a love for golf as the years pressed on. In 1999 he was inducted into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame for all he had accomplished in the sport. Whether it was the Athlete, Father, husband, or man of incredible work ethic, Henry's greatest
accomplishment was being himself and loving those around him.
He was predeceased by his son, John in 1976.
Henry is survived by his wife Mary; sons, Joe (Joann), Chuck (Lisa), and Henry Gaspe; daughters, Sandy (Pat) Foster, Kitty (Dennis) Ashby, Debbie (Bob) Dillabough; grand-children Wendy, Robert, Tina, Jon-Paul, Gabby, Krystal, Sabrina, Tiffany, Alyssa and Jordan; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Kate Oke, Margaret Diabo and Frances Richard.
Services will be Saturday, 9 AM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Burial is Private. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
