Helga M. Gilbert, devoted mother of six, died on Sunday at 92 years old.
Born July 16, 1925, Helga grew up near Leipzig Germany, came to the U.S. after WWII, and always felt
that her true home was here. She loved the beauty of the natural world, music and just going out for a drive. She
and the love of her life were wed on Aug. 31, 1963, at Bellevue Methodist Church in Syracuse, N.Y., and spent many wonderful retirement years traveling the country in their RV. She and Bob finally "parked it" in Boise, Idaho in 2006 after 12 years of retirement. Helga was living in Syracuse the last few years of her life to be with her girls.
She is survived by sisters Irene Kater (husband Klaus) and Eva Czaravich (husband Richard), brothers Manfred Naumann (wife Renate), Klaus Rokohl (wife Amy) and Gunther Baunack (wife Jan), three daughters: Christine Meredith (partner Frank Testa), Claudia Brandl (husband Erwin), and Stephanie Geno (husband Patrick), and two sons: Kevin Gilbert (wife Breeze) and Darrin Gilbert (wife Ingrid).
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert
"Bob" Gilbert (1929-2009) and a fourth daughter, Evelyn Gallagher (1947-1991). She also leaves behind ten grandsons and granddaughters, Sean Gallagher, Alan Gallagher, Michael Meredith, Andrea Brandl
Conahan, Kimberly Brandl, Noah Gilbert, Kiara Gilbert, Braeden Gilbert, Liam Gilbert and Elliot Gilbert, and two great-grandchildren, Rune and Hudson.
