Helene E. Pond, 87, of Syracuse, passed away on Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Helene was born on July 16, 1926, daughter of Ross and Clara King Edgar. Helene entered Plattsburgh State Teachers College School of Nursing through the Cadet Nurse Corps program established during WW II, and received a BA of Science degree in 1949. She was a school nurse-teacher in several districts including LaFargeville, Hammond, Morristown, in addition to private duty nursing and various locations in Syracuse.

Helene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Donald, by her children: Ellen of CT, Donald of Watertown, Wayne and Pamela of Syracuse, and granddaughter Melanie of CT.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-6pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse. Graveside services will be held on Thursday 11am at South Richland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and in tribute to her love for a little tuxedo cat named Casey who's been waiting at the Rainbow Bridge, donations may be made to Spay and Neuter Syracuse and to CNYSPCA.
