Helen M. Hillegus, 69, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by the love of her life of 50 years, James E. Hillegus, Sr. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed bowling. Helen was happiest around her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen was also predeceased by her parents Roy and Louise Haskins and her sister, Myra (Haskins) DeJohn.
Helen is survived by her children, Clifford (Cheryl) Hillegus of Virginia, Alveda M. (Mark) Zahn of Chicago, Lynda (Tony) Vercillo of Florida, Jayme (Keith) Dougherty of Florida, James E. (AnnMarie) Hillegus, Jr. of Auburn; sisters, Mary (Hank) Stempien and Leona (Fred) Campbell; brother, Roy Haskins; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday 3:30-6:30PM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse with a service to follow at 6:30PM. Burial will be private for the family.
