Heide Holstein, lovingly called "Omi" ("Granny" in German) within her family, passed away on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022, with her daughter, Michaela, by her side.
Born October 6th, 1945, in Eutin, Germany. Heide loved to sing. Singing got her through challenging times while growing up, and she continued to sing and perform in her adulthood. She loved to share the cassettes of her singing with her children and grandchildren.
As a grandmother, she loved to bake cakes for her family. Special occasion or not; the family favorite was her mandarin orange vanilla cake. She also kept a secret cabinet of chocolates and other treats in her bedroom to give her grandchildren when they came over. Her favorite past time would be to tell the many colorful stories of her life.
Heide had also always wanted to open her own German restaurant, and while she was able to live out her dream in a smaller capacity, by having "Heide's German take- out" in New Lebanon, NY. She also hosted two German food nights at The Polish Home. Her recipes will continue to be cherished and passed down for generations to come.
Heide also cared deeply about her community by founding her neighborhood chapter of The Neighborhood Watch. Heide enjoyed being a part of making her neighborhood safer and family oriented.
Heide is survived by three of her sisters, Herma (Gerd), Frauke, Heike, nephew Thorsten (Wiebke) and extended family in Germany; her daughter, Michaela, Son, Michael, her grandchildren; Michael, Chad, Mathias, Julia, Ashley, Skye, and Bianca; Great-grandchildren Keira Lynn, Danaya-Lee, Liam Michael, Aliana Ewa, Jensen Roy, and Brylan Ann; And her beloved rescue animals Zoe & Lily.
Given the recent passing of her daughter. It brings the family great comfort to know she was met with Barbara's open loving arms.
Her burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery on Thursday April 28, 2022 at 1PM.
