Harry Wilbur Adams, 77, of Syracuse, passed away June 8, 2023. He was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey on February 8, 1946 to George and Elsie Adams. Harry rose through the ranks in the Boy Scouts of America, following his father and brother earning the Order of the Arrow, title of Eagle Scout and becoming Assistant Scout Master. He played football at Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota. Harry served in the United States Air Force as a Jet over two Flight Line Mechanic during the Vietnam War. He retired from P & C Markets, where he was employed as a meat cutter for over 43 years. Harry was a firefighter/ EMT with Homer and Mattydale Fire Departments. He was a Red Shirt Softball Umpire, an avid bowler and golfer where he competed with his mother in the Empire State Senior Games, winning medals in both. In his free time, he enjoyed spending times with his dogs Chyna and Charlie and cutting neighborhood lawns. Harry was a friend to all and all who knew him knew to shake their heads at his humor. He was a real jokester no matter the circumstances.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elsie Adams; daughter, Christiana Marie Adams; twin brother, George Adams, Jr.; sister in law, Marjorie Adams; and son in law, Mike Sikes.
He is survived by his spouse of 17 years, Christine Adams, daughters, Elsie Adams and Tammy Sikes; grandchildren, Christiana Sikes, Anthony, Gregory, Joe Adams, and Pamela Stengrim; and great grandchildren, Jordan and Ariel Stengrim.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 4-7PM at New Comer Cremations and Funerals. Graveside services will be held the following day at Glenwood Cemetery in Homer NY at 2:30PM.
Memorial contributions may be made in Harry's name to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Syracuse VA Medical Center.
