The Honorable Gustave "Gus" J. DiBianco passed away at home on August 14, 2022 at the age of 81, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a US Army Veteran and served as a Federal Magistrate Judge in the Northern District of New York for 22 years, presiding over both civil and criminal cases. He was the Chief United States Magistrate Judge for the last 9 years of his career until his retirement in 2010. Prior to his judicial service, Judge DiBianco was an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Interim U.S. Attorney, and First Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Syr. office. Judge DiBianco was also a mediator/arbitrator and spent several years as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University's College of Law.
Judge DiBianco was a friend, teacher, and mentor to many. He had a generous heart and an incredible wit. He enjoyed tackling home repairs, exercising, tinkering with cars, and helping others, especially those less fortunate. He was always there to lend a hand. Judge DiBianco adored being around his family and close friends. He is survived by his two children Richard and Jennifer DiBianco, his brother Joe (Phyllis), his sister Rose (Jim), brother Robert (Joan), and all of their amazing children. Judge DiBianco was involved in the NDNY Federal Court, Onondaga County, and NY State Bar Associations. He also served as Board President of his Condominium Association in Florida. He will always be remembered for his integrity, perseverance, and kindness
