Gus N. Chambers

June 21, 1921 — April 22, 2020

Gus (Constantine) N. Chambers, 98, of Kirkville, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.

Gus was born in Gorani, Sparta, Greece on June 21, 1921.

He often shared memories of his childhood years growing up in the mountaintop village overlooking the fields and valley below. Gus served in the U.S. Army during WW II.

Following his service, he spent many years in the restaurant business. He enjoyed cooking, tending his vegetable garden, and designing unique ways to outwit the squirrels, rabbits and other critters that attempted to steal his prized vegetables.

Gus had a great memory, liked to reminisce about the past and surprised everyone with the details he remembered. He was a kind and peaceful man with a gentle demeanor and positive outlook. As he always liked to say "Don't worry. Everything will be OK" and when asked "how are you" he would respond "no complaints."

He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine, and sister Vasiliki.

He is survived by his children, George and Cindy (Marlene); sisters, Martha Pappas and Voula Lazaris; and brothers, George and Spiros.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, funeral services will be private. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
