Gordon C. Payne, Sr., 81, of Syracuse, went home to be with his heavenly Father, on Monday at his home with his family by his side. He was born April 7, 1930 in Baldwinsville. Gordon served aboard the USS Vesuvius AE 15 during WW II and Korean War. He retired in 1992 from the US Postal Service after 29 years.
Surviving are a son, Robert Hickey, from a previous marriage. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Medler Payne. Together they had 4 sons; Gordon, Jr., (Henrietta), John (Cindy), Michael and Kevin Payne, 6 daughters; Sharon Payne, Claire Dine, Delores (John) McGillvray, Brenda Payne, Karen (Glen) Howie, Stephanie (David) Spoor, 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, a sister, Dolores Lusk and several nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm at Community Christian Reformed Church in Baldwinsville. Services will be held on Thursday 10am at the church.
Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery.
