According to Gertrude's wishes there will be no local services.
Gertrude Minardi (Dewhurst) was married for fifty-one years to her loving husband, Dominic, prior to his passing in 1993. Above all, she cherished her family and found her greatest joy in their happiness. She raised four devoted children and actively loved and supported all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. She consistently maintained strong ties with all of her nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful homemaker, an excellent cook and a creative seamstress. She loved to garden, read and entertain.
She was raised in Queens, New York, by her mother, Mary Dewhurst and lived with her two sisters, Florence and Regina. In her early adulthood she enjoyed working in retail, always being a lover of fashion. After moving to Hicksville, New York she held many jobs and ultimately did clerical work for the Nassau County Probation Department for approximately fourteen years.
Subsequent to her children's youth, she and her husband moved to Florida and ultimately made their home in Fort Pierce, Florida. There they enjoyed the gift of many new friendships and all the amenities of a fruitful retirement. She enjoyed social card playing, golfing, and many blissful days at the beach. For many years, she volunteered at the Spanish Lakes community library.
To be closer to family, she recently returned to New York State and lived with her children. Her friends in Florida called this her "retirement from retirement." Wherever she lived, she was a member of her church community and maintained a strong faith. She was a kind and true friend to many and always a believer in all things positive and hopeful.
