Gerald C. Byron, 88, of North Syracuse, passed away December 29, 2022. Gerald was born in Watertown, New York on December 15, 1934 to Gerald and Grace Byron. He served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957. Gerald was a member of the Cicero American Legion for over 19 years. He was employed with Sylvania for multiple years and then went onto retire from Niagara Mohawk, where he was employed as a computer supervisor. He was a lifelong parishioner of the North Syracuse Baptist church. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, hunting and fishing here on Oneida Lake as well as Hoel Pond in the Adirondacks. Gerald spent many years as a member of the McCavanaugh Pond Club in the Adirondacks. Gerald and his love Joyce found a special love of traveling during the many trips taken with Eastern Air lines. They continued their travels in their motor home and belonged to the New York Centrals Chapter of FMCA. Both he and Joyce were members of the Oswego Yacht Club sharing many fun times with friends and family on Lake Ontario.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Grace Byron Sr.; and brother in law, Henry Neuroth.
Gerald is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Robinson and Beth (Andy) Byron - Klocek; son, Robert (Annette) Byron; five grandchildren, Jacob, Kyra, Kimberly, Michael, Benjamin; two great grandchildren, Elijah Owens, Talia Owens; Brother, David (Louise) Byron; sister, Joan Neuroth; and several cousins and friends.
Gerald was direct and caring with all he knew. He had a way of leaving an imprint on all he came in contact with, just like his father had. He had a way with words that made you feel his large presence. He loved to laugh, tell stories, ones you never forgot, and everyone that knew him had one about him. Gerald was a great teacher by example. He will be greatly missed by all.
Calling hours will be held on, January 4th 2022 from 4:30PM-7:30PM at New Comer Cremations and Funerals. Graveside services will be held, April 1st 2023 at 10:00AM at Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Gerald's name to the Humane Society CNY, 4915 W Taft Rd, Liverpool, NY 13088.
