Georgianna “Georgia” Marie Anchikites (Raynor) passed away on October 30, 2024. Georgianna was born to Margaret and George Raynor, on January 20, 1944, and lived her entire life in the Syracuse, NY area. The youngest of eight children, she was proud to be the first in her family to graduate high school and, from a young age, was a hard worker who gave 110%. She retired from Medicare Blue Cross/Blue Shield where she spent many years helping clients sort through their health care coverage questions.
After high school, she married, had two children (Mary and Peter Jr.), and lived in North Syracuse where she often volunteered in her children’s classrooms. She especially enjoyed tutoring children in reading and was a voracious reader who loved sharing her joy of books and libraries.
Along with reading, Georgianna got great pleasure from walking outdoors and, in her later years, could often be found at Onondaga Lake Park. The last outing she had with her two children was to Taughannock Falls in Ithaca and she took great pride in walking the entire trail to the falls and back. She loved to talk (a lot and fast), enjoyed bowling, playing BINGO and doing the jumble puzzle in the newspaper, and always looked forward to visiting her son, PJ, and daughter-in-law, Vicki, in Florida.
Georgianna, by far, got the greatest pleasure from her two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Bearkland, and would talk about them to anyone who would ask (and probably a great many people who didn’t). Whether it was going to the park, taking them out to eat, spending time at her apartment, or attending all their sporting events, school activities, and musical performances, Georgianna was an amazing grandmother who had a fierce love for her “boys”.
Georgianna was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings. She is survived by her children, Mary Bearkland (Peter) and PJ Anchikites (Vicki), and grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Bearkland who will gather next summer to honor her memory. The family would like to thank the healthcare providers on the 3rd floor of Van Duyn Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care.
