George W. Liberty, Jr., 84, of North Syracuse passed away Friday with his loving family at his side. Son of the late George W., Sr. and Mary Kieffer Liberty, he retired from General Electric in 1987 after 40 years as a machinist. "Gunner" enjoyed hunting with family and friends at "Camp Liberty", was an avid NY Yankees and SU sports fan, enjoyed fishing, golf, gardening and NASCAR. He was a life member of the Simon-Parise VFW Post 9596. Cicero American Legion Post 787, GE Survivors Club, Syracuse Turners and Arrowhead Golf Club. He was a US Army Air Corp veteran serving in WWII. George was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Dowd Liberty in 1990.
He is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Rebecca "Becky" Thomson-Liberty; three sons, Jack (Judy Lockley), Lawrence (Cheri Bradshaw) and Robert (Christine) Liberty; three daughters, Linda Liberty, Susan Portier and Cheryl (Eric Johnson) Liberty; step-sons, Jack (Kimberly) and Clint Thomson; a sister, Lorraine (Chuck) Bough; 19 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday, 9:15 AM at New Comer Funeral Home, North Syracuse and 10 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home, 705 N. Main St.
