George Frederick Scriba, III, 96, passed away at home on February 20, 2023, surrounded by family, in Constantia NY. He was born April 29,1926 in Syracuse, NY to Frederick & Agnes Scriba.
George graduated from Central Square High school in 1945. He worked his early years at Easy Washer and then at Prestolite for 31 years in Syracuse NY. At Prestolite he was a proud member of the United Auto Workers and served as a Union Steward and also a Committeeman. He retired from Prestolite in 1981. George had a long record of public service. He served as a Constantia Fire Commissioner, and well into his 80's he was on the Constantia Planning Board. He was also a proud Democrat, serving as Town Chairman of the Democratic Party. One of his proudest moments in life was meeting Robert Kennedy when RFK was a US Senator from NY.
George met the love of his life, Evelyn Clara Beaumont, a new citizen from Yorkshire, England, and they married on February 7, 1947. They were happily married for 68 years until Evelyn's death in February 2015.
George loved hunting, fishing, camping, boating, woodworking and being an outdoorsman. In the winter he especially loved ice fishing. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed watching and attending baseball games. For many years he had a part time business repairing wooden boats and built his own 15 foot fishing boat.
George also loved to travel, returning to Evelyn's home in the United Kingdom numerous times, twice traveling by ocean liner in 1950 & 1956. Family vacations took them to Maine, Florida, California,Thousand Islands and Canada. George connected with his Scriba family roots during visits to family members in Germany and Canada. He also organized large family reunions and valued preserving his family history by speaking at historical society events.
George is survived by four children : Frederick –"Rick" (Bonnie) of Eagle Point, OR; Christopher (Patti Primo) of Bernhards Bay, NY; Sybil (Graham) Ruffels of Cape Vincent NY, Ardean (Missy) of East Syracuse, NY, brother Weston (Kathy) Scriba of Cicero, NY, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. David McLay of Clearwater, FL whom George & Evelyn sponsored at the age of 17 from Yorkshire, England is considered a fourth son by the Scriba family.
He will be especially missed by his loyal companion Toby, his Miniature Schnauzer.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Denise Herholtz, for her loving care and friendship with Dad, in the last months of his life.

Visitation will be held on Friday March 3rd, 2023 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Constantia from 11-1pm. A service will follow at 1:00pm. Burial will take place in the spring at West Monroe Cemetery.
