George Harrington, 63, passed away July 22, 2019.
George loved classic country music, and was a performer since his teens. He and his brother Alvin won the Eastern States award for best duet in the early 70's. They traveled to Wheeling, West Virginia and performed on Jamboree USA several times. They were invited to become regulars on the Jamboree but the duet split before this came to be.
George went on to play in several Central New York bands in the Syracuse area. Eventually he went to work for Hal Casey, a noted New York State fiddle player, and was front man for North Country for 25 years. George played venues all over New York and surrounding states. North Country opened for many country music stars.
George was a member of the New York State Old Time Fiddler's Association and served as president. He was a member of the Mohawk Valley Bluegrass Association and served on the board of directors.
George worked as a DJ for WSEN, WSCP and WBRV throughout the years.
He is predeceased by his parents, Laura and Fred Harrington, and his younger brother, William Harrington.
He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (David) Burgess and Courtney Harrington (Scott Collar), as well as four grandchildren, DJ, Kelsie and Jonathon Burgess and Gabby Collar. George is also survived by his brother, Alvin Harrington and his sister, Laurie Wittwer.
