George G. Lopes, Sr., 73, of Central Square, passed away unexpectedly on Friday.
George was a professional boxer known as the "Portuguese Slugger". He was involved in racing for many years. He was a Mason with Fisher Companies in Liverpool. George was an amazing man who was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cynthia.
George is survived by his fiancé, Linda DiGiorgio; six children, Lisa (John) Cornish, George (Charity) Lopes, Jr., Timothy Lopes, Holly (John) Aris, Kimberly Lopes and Donald (Michelle) Hilton; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five siblings, Fernando Lopes, Mary Grace Ramos, Joseph Lopes, Rosemary McDonald and Adriano Lopes and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday 2-4PM and 6-8PM at New Comer Funeral home, N. Syracuse.
A funeral service will be held on Friday 10AM at the funeral home with burial to follow in N. Syracuse Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
