Gary W. "Bob Paris" Gallup

February 27, 1946 — May 4, 2024

Gary W. Gallup, 78, of Mattydale, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on May 4, 2024, surrounded by his close friends and cherished companion, Penny, following a courageous battle with leukemia.

Gary's broadcasting journey began in the radio club at North Syracuse High School from which he graduated before embarking on a distinguished career in commercial radio across Central New York. Known professionally as Bob Paris, he entertained audiences on popular stations such as WSEN, WHEN, WOLF, WRRB, WSCP, and WPCX, among others.

His expertise extended to serving as program director for several stations, notably WTKW, where he spearheaded the launch of TK-99 in 1992. In his later years, he transitioned to a role as a purveyor of fine men’s clothing at Lord & Taylor in Syracuse.

Bob's passion for country music was palpable. He frequented events in Nashville such as Fan Fair, now known as the CMA Music Festival, and The Grand Ole Opry, where he rubbed shoulders and interviewed luminaries of the industry.

From George Jones to Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks to Tammy Wynette, and countless others, Bob's affable presence left an indelible mark. His resonant baritone voice became a familiar comfort to Central New Yorkers, earning him accolades such as DJ of the Year from Cortland’s Country Music Park.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Bob was an ardent animal lover and an avid conversationalist on topics ranging from music to show business. He found joy in listening to local bands with friends, occasionally taking to the dance floor with enthusiasm even weeks before his passing. Mostly, he was a good friend to all who knew him.

Preceded in death by his wife Linda in 2018,

Bob is survived by three step-grandchildren.

A Christian Service and Celebration of his Life will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, 1:00pm at the Malden Road United Church of Christ, 108 Malden Road in Mattydale, NY. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will take place at White Chapel Memory Gardens in DeWitt at a later date.
