Garth Marvin Bishop, 69, of Syracuse, NY passed away January 31st, 2023. Garth was born in Cortland, New York to Mary Jane Roys and Harold Bishop.
Garth is survived by his three children, Garth Harold Bishop (grandchildren Mackenzie and Eden), Emily Coralyne Bishop, and Ian Burton Bishop, the mothers of his children, Margie and Mary Warboy, his siblings David (Christine), Laird (Len), Rick (Kathleen), Kent (Gail), and Chiprle (Dan) and several nieces and nephews.
He is remembered as a humorous guy with completely illegible texts and writing, albeit a poet and a sketch artist. We knew Garth as an emotional man with a big heart who appreciated the beauty of Earth and as someone who had difficulty facing both the overwhelming pain and love of life. He loved to camp, fish, and hunt and recollect his wild days, which we aren't sure were really true but he was crazy enough that the stories could be.
His life was ended by the unfortunate circumstances of a lifelong addiction to drugs. It is with mixed emotion that we say goodbye to Garth, with relief and sadness of his passing. We are in grief with everyone who has lost, or is losing, a beloved person to the epidemic of drug abuse and all that comes with it.
Here is a poem that Garth wrote a year to the date before his daughter was born:
The heat is in the trees.
Be bare.
Now leaves scurry
across the
grass.
And I sit back
to think of Summer past.
Leaves like me
when I chase the hills.

Emily Bishop.
