Francis Andrew Mathews, 92, a lifelong resident of Syracuse, passed away Wednesday. He was born on February 6, 1918 to Richard and Annie (Egle) Mathews. He owned and managed Mathews Dairy and took great pleasure in providing dairy products throughout the area for many years. He retired from the NYS Thruway. A lifelong communicant of St. John the Baptist, he emulated the life of St. Francis. He was a hard worker whose family was his primary focus. Most of all he was a kind, gentle, honest and loving person who will always be cherished by his loved ones. He is predeceased by his siblings, Howard and Robert Mathews, and Evelyn Schneider.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Ruth Prell Mathews; their children, Wayne (Dinea) Mathews of Palmas, Brazil, Ron (Mary) Mathews of Rochester, and Deborah Mathews Horner of Syracuse; grandchildren, Andrew (Melissa) Mathews, Mark, Su, Maura, Maira, Taina and Kaima Mathews; great grandchildren, Patrick and Joshua Mathews and Bryan Santiago; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, 9AM at St. John the Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Mausoleum. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse.
