Mrs. Frances Gwendolyn Burnette, Leonard 84, of Cicero, passed away Thursday, November 17, at her home.
She was born in Deal Island, Maryland, in 1938 to the late William and Henrietta Burnette. After graduating from Somerset High School she married her former husband, Paul Leonard, in 1957 and they moved to Syracuse in 1960.
Mrs. Leonard completed office management classes and earned her vocational certificate with the Educational Office Center (EOC) in the early 1970s. She also volunteered at the Ed Smith Elementary School library in the 1970s before working as an admitting clerk with Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital for 11 years.
A devoted mother, Mrs. Leonard demonstrated her many talents, including gardening, knitting and crocheting, and southern cooking, to bless her family and friends. But above all, Mrs. Leonard was devoted to God. She was well known for her gift of singing, and her soaring soprano uplifted and inspired others who heard her sing solos and in choirs at events and churches, including Central Baptist Church, which was her home church for many years.
In addition to her former husband, who passed away in 2013, Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Leonard Sicherman, in 2010.
Celebrating her life are her daughters and sons-in-law, Paula Leonard, Donna and Leonard Cage, and Angela and Emerson Piercy; brother and sister-in-law, George and Joanne Burnette; sister, Norma Burnette; grandchildren and their spouses, Steven (Lisa) Williams, Marques (Younju Jung) Williams, Patrice (Couri) Glen, Angela Cage, Jahnae (Nick) Roberts, Jonathan Sicherman, Gabrielle Sicherman, Lakinah Cage, Leonard Cage Jr., Keywanda (Jamel) Spivey, and Antoinnette Cage; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
