Fern L. Newell, 69, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday surrounded by family. Born in Brushton, NY to Clifton and Bernice Dunn. Fern was an avid lover and rescuer of animals, loving mother; doting grandmother, breast cancer survivor and a compassionate, giving member of her community. She is predeceased by her siblings, Donald and Dorothy Griffin, Douglas "Poncho" Griffin, Beverly Shelter and Morton "Buddy" Dunn.
She is survived by her husband, Randy Newell; three children, Bernice (Randy Newman) Ward, Douglas Ward and Charity Peck; eleven grandchildren, Shannon (Shawn Keding) Keding, Thomas Commisso, Nicholette Ward, Brianna Fazio, Richard Peck, Shantell Hayward, Marquis Brown, Aleshia McGloun, Aidan Ward, Kylan Ward and Alexis Ward; three great grandchildren, Ava Buck, Jai'Vion Hayward and Jayden Phoenix Hart; five siblings, Sherry Leabo, Germaine Dame, Thomas O'Donnell, Patricia O'Donnell and Daria Herne; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a special and unique human being and will be missed by all who knew her.
Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4PM at New Comer Funeral Home. Services to follow at 4PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bernice Ward in care of Fern's animals and burial wishes.
