Felipe Negrón, age 82, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025. He was born on May 1, 1942, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, the beloved son of the late Providencia Rosario.
Felipe made Syracuse his home for over 55 years, where he built a life filled with love, resilience, and unwavering faith. He worked for Syracuse China for 20 years and was known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and kind spirit. A devoted Catholic, Felipe was a faithful member of St. Anthony Church, where he found comfort, community, and strength in his faith throughout his life.
Before his illness, Felipe dedicated much of his time to his family and his community. He was an active member of the Syracuse Latin American Club, where friends and family often gathered, filling the space with laughter, music, and love. He was known for his sense of humor and his signature catchphrase, “Whippy!”—a word that brought smiles to everyone who heard it. He also had a deep love for the New York Yankees and, whether he was well or facing illness, he never missed a game.
In his early 40s, Felipe was diagnosed with ataxia, a condition that slowly took many of his physical abilities—but love was never one of them. Though the illness altered his mobility, it never touched the depth of his heart or the love he gave so freely. As his condition progressed, Felipe spent his later years at Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. Even then, he remained surrounded by the care, presence, and unwavering love of his devoted wife and family, who never left his side.
Family, for Felipe, was everything—whether it was the one he was born into or the one he created, his love was always genuine, loyal, and true. Though miles away from Puerto Rico, he never stopped thinking about his siblings, nieces, and nephews. He loved them deeply and unconditionally, carrying them in his heart every day.
Felipe is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Antonia Negrón; his sons, Richard Negrón and Gilbert Negrón; and his stepchildren, Virginia Gonzalez-Jimenez and Pedro Ramos.
He was a proud grandfather to Virginia Allen, Janette Velez, Kyhjer Negrón, Ewannas Negrón, Storm Negrón, Talia Negrón, Teresa Negrón, and Antonio Negrón, and is lovingly reunited in heaven with his grandchildren Kei’sean Canery and Elijah Negrón.
He was also a devoted great-grandfather to Omar Vélez, Janelle Allen, Ivelise Vélez, Miah Vélez, and Avi’Elle Canery, and joins his beloved great-grandson Jalen Allen in eternal rest.
His face would light up with joy anytime his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were near—his love for them was boundless.
Felipe lived a life well loved. He will be remembered for his deep faith, his gentle heart, his humor, and the legacy of strength, community, and love he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
