Fal Furney

September 5, 1924 — August 2, 2016

"Grandma" Fal Furney passed away in her home at the age of 91 surrounded with love. She was born and raised in Brooklyn; the 7th child of 9 siblings. Fal moved to the Syracuse area in 1945 and in 1949 married Gerald W. Furney who predeceased her in 1988. They had two children and two grandchildren.

Fal wore many hats throughout her life. Her favorites were that of homemaker, mother, and grandmother. Her greatest passion was helping children. After retirement, she volunteered for 18 years as a Foster Grandparent with Headstart where she became tenderly known as "Grandma" to everyone.

Fal loved getting together with family and friends. She was a huge fan of baseball and soccer and she enjoyed playing cards and scrabble, reading, music and good conversation. Faith was an important part of her life and she attended church regularly.

Fal was a strong and independent woman. Although very small in stature, she had a big heart and gave generously of herself. She loved and was loved by many and she will be missed very much.

Fal is survived by her sister, Vicky; her daughter, Deborah; her son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Kim; her grandsons, Jason (Katie) and David (Cate) and many nieces, nephews and friends.

As a tribute to her, all who knew Fal are invited to attend a Mass in her honor at 10 AM, Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the St. Rose of Lima Church on Rt. 11 in N. Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Smile or Fr. Scott's Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
