Evelyn Clara Scriba (Beaumont) passed away February 9, 2015 at home in Constantia after a courageous fight for many years with chronic illness.
Born June 22, 1923 in County Durham, England, Evelyn served during World War II as a "Wren" in the Womens Royal Naval Service (WRNS). While based in Southampton in 1944 she witnessed Allied preparations for the D-Day invasion of Normandy.

She came to the U.S. in 1946 where she met her devoted spouse of 67 years. Survivors include husband George F. Scriba and four children – Frederick (Bonnie) Scriba of Eagle Point, Oregon; Christopher Scriba of Bernhards Bay, NY; Sybil (Graham) Ruffels of Constantia, NY; and Ardean (Melissa) Scriba of N. Syracuse, NY – 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and brother-in-law Weston (Kathy) Scriba. David McLay of Clearwater, FL – whom George and Evelyn sponsored as a 17-year-old immigrant from Yorkshire, England – is considered a fourth son by the Scriba family.

After raising her family Evelyn worked for the U.S. Census Bureau and Constantia Greenhouse, and served as clerk and Postmaster in the town of Constantia. During retirement she and George spent many winters in Englewood, Florida but always looked forward to returning home and spending time with their family. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, and traveling and was a member of the Julie Thurston Library Guild. Despite her long illness Evelyn always had a smile for her visitors and kept her sense of humor. She will be remembered for her British resilience, stoicism, and fighting spirit.
Special thanks to the aides-Barb, Sam, Crystal, & Becky, who provided care and comfort for Evelyn at home, nurse, Barbara and to Dr. Springer. Thanks also to the North Shore Ambulance Service and the Constantia Fire Department for their quick responses and excellent care rendered in time of need.

Services will be private at Newcomer Funeral Home. A celebration of life and burial service will be held in the Spring.

Memorial gifts may be made to North Shore Ambulance or the Constantia Volunteer Fire Department.
