Ernestine Shannon, 69, of Syracuse, passed away on Wednesday at Crouse Hospital. She was born in Elizabeth City, NC on November 9, 1950 daughter of the late Lee Ernest and Grace Shannon.
Ernestine grew up in Elizabeth City and attended PW Moore High School. She was a member of the Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and attended services regularly. When her mother passed in 1989, she moved to Syracuse to live with her sister Shirley Goddard. She attended the Monarch Day Services program at ARC for many years and later the day program at Menorah Park. She was friendly and kind and had many friends in the programs. She was also well liked by the staffs of the program; who continued to inquire of her years after she left the programs. She enjoyed socializing with her friends and dancing. She danced at home and at socials. She also enjoyed family reunions and could remember family members that she had not seen for many years. At home she was responsible for folding clothes, washing dishes, and keeping her room clean.
She was well loved by family and friends. To some, she was an angel.
Ernestine is survived by her sisters, Shirley L. (Tyrone) Goddard, Jerlean (Michael) Daniels; brother, Ernest (Lavon) Shannon; along with many nieces and nephews.
