Emelia M. King

Emelia "Millie" King, 84, of Mattydale passed away peacefully Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Her family was with her continuously over her final days. Courage and dignity were ever present all her life and also as she prepared for death. Emelia was a native of Dickson City, PA. She was the daughter of the late John Magdon and Agnes Szarek Magon. Emelia came to Syracuse at the age of 18 where she met her husband John. They were married in 1945 and eventually settled in Mattydale where she has resided for 53 years. Emelia was employed by several local businesses' culminating with her retirement from General Electric. It was then Emelia began her most rewarding career. She became a foster mother to numerous infants who, for many different reasons, were in need of loving care at a tender age. She was both an outstanding mother and foster mother and relished both roles passionately. Emelia was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church and an active member of the Mattydale/Hinsdale Seniors. She enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Yankee fan. She is predeceased by her husband John (1981), her brother Joe and her sisters Irene Ziebro, Elizabeth Kotowicz, Joan Froio, Wanda Makcinski and Helen Zawistowski, who died Friday, one day prior to Emelia.

Surviving are her sons; John and Kenneth (Ida), her grandchildren; Jennifer and Bryan, who were the loves of her life and whom she was so proud of, her sister; Marion (Joe) Castellani, several nieces and nephews and of course her precious foster children.
