Ellen J. McCauley passed away at Crouse Hospital on 1/30/2023 with her cherished family by her side.
Born on 8/26/1933, she grew up in Elmira, NY, graduated from Elmira Free Academy, married, and raised three children in Elmira Heights before she moved to Syracuse in 1981, to be close to her daughters. Ellen was an accomplished poet and artist. She was the matriarch of a small, but fierce, family and taught them to love God, their family and country.
She was predeceased by her husband Vincent in 1991, her mother Lolita Lewis in 2002 and her daughter Cathy in 2016.
Surviving to remember her, all their days, are her daughters, Ellen M. (Robert) McCauley, Mae (Dennis) Schuelke, honorary daughter, Barbara (Eddie) Thayer, five grandchildren, Hannah Lewis (who resided with her and lovingly helped with her care for the past four years), Shannon (Dustin) Sherrick, Erin Schuelke, CA (Rocky) Rhoades, Vincent L. McCauley II and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private service. Deep gratitude to the 4S staff at Crouse Hospital for their compassion and care.
