Ellen (Griffith) Yackel

Ellen (Griffith) Yackel, 66, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday evening. Ellen worked as the Business Officer at the Syracuse Developmental Center, and retired after 35 years of service. In retirement, Ellen was very active in her community as a member of the Minoa United Methodist Church and Minoa-Bridgeport-Kirkville Ecumenical Council. She was known for her generous spirit and compassion and was always happy to help friends, relatives, and others along the way. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Ellen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ellen is survived by her loving husband, Jack; daughters Terri Yackel of Chittenango and Ginger (Jason) Jurkiewicz; step-daughters, Cynthia (Larry) Marcellus of Corning and Tammy Yackel of Syracuse; grandchildren, Matthew Marcellus and Marissa Yackel; a sister, Tish (Ronald) Hailston of Georgetown; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, NY. Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday March 15, 2010 at Minoa United Methodist Church, 246 East Ave, Minoa.
