Edwin Swan

Edwin E. Swan, 93, of Syracuse, NY, formerly of Point Chautauqua, NY and Jamestown, NY passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025. He was born to the late Hugo and Mary Jones Swan on October 7, 1931, in Point Chautauqua, NY, where he lived and worked for most of his life.

 

 Edwin’s life’s work was as a self-employed contractor and builder. He designed, built and maintained dozens of beautiful homes in Point Chautauqua and the Chautauqua Lake area. He was instrumental in the design and development of the original water system in Point Chautauqua.

 

Edwin was a 1951 graduate of Mayville Central School. He served in the US Navy, from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of The VFW, Legion of Foreign Wars and The Moose for many years, along with over 40 years of membership in the Dewittville Volunteer Fire Department. His favorite pastimes were playing his luck and western dancing with his lady love, Dorothy Turner who predeceased him. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially his great-grandchildren.

 

 Surviving are his children, Karen Mason (Conrad), Kathleen Johnson (Timothy), Douglas Swan and Son-in-law Daniel Thorsell (Lorraine). Grandchildren, Kacie Hetrick (Robert), Kourtney Shuman, Jillian Newell (Jeffrey), Bryce Mason (Sara), Cole Smith (Rachel), Alexander Smith (Kiersten), Garret Smith, Keenan Smith, Joshua Swan, Sierra Swan and Noah Swan. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition he is survived by his Turner girls, Roxie, Cindy, Tina and Valerie. 

  Preceding him in death is an adored daughter, Kelly Thorsell; Brothers, Harold, James, Hugh, Francis and Everett Swan; Sisters, Evelyn Foster, Edith Gerring, Martha Jean Barton, May Swan, Clara Boland and Josephine Thomas.

  The family wishes to thank all the dedicated caregivers who helped care for Edwin in his final years.   Per Edwin’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Memorials may be made to Dewittville Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
