Edward A. Thibault

Edward A. Thibault, professor emeritus and past chair of the Department of Sociology at SUNY Oswego, died September 18, 2021, at home in Baldwinsville, NY. He was 81.
Edward was born in Syracuse, NY, in 1939, to Joffre and Lillian Thibault (Vandermark). He received his B.S. in Political Science/History from Le Moyne College, then went on to earn two master's degrees in Political Science and Social Studies Education from SUNY Buffalo. He received his Ph.D. in Social Science from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.
Edward was a criminologist and published scholar in Criminal Justice. His major areas of expertise were police culture and proactive police management, hate groups, juvenile justice, cybercrime and security, and global police. He was a dedicated educator, researcher, and activist on and off campus.
In his personal life, Edward enjoyed writing poetry, heavy metal music, and Broadway shows.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years Marianne; son, Rob Thibault; son-in-law, Ben McCament; granddaughter, Morgan McCament; grandson, Marshall McCament; as well as step daughters Michaela Rehm and Cheryl Butler (Pampuch), and step grandchildren Kanischa Miller, Kayla Miller, Sabrina Rehm, Joshua Butler, Emily Butler, and Frederick Butler.
Edward is recently preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Corinne McCament.
The family will be holding private services.
