Edward W. Garvey

Edward W. Garvey, 85, of Syracuse passed away Thursday January 11th at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his wife of 63 years Jeanne (Connors) and his loving family. Edward was born in Syracuse on May 25, 1921. He was brought up in the House of Providence, until entering the Navy at age 17. He went on to be a Veteran of WW II and the Korean War. While in the Navy he invented an interchangeable and removable locking device for reduction gears. During his naval career he was stationed at many locations around the world and in the United States. After retiring from the Navy in March 1958 he was employed as the Superintendent of renovation at City Hall. He founded the local chapter of the Fleet Reserve. At age 83 he finally received his high school diploma from CBA.
He is survived by his loving wife Jeanne Connors Garvey, and his five children; Peggy Garvey-Miner, Pat Mathews, Ed Garvey, Barbara Aldridge and Debbie Garvey, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday at 6 PM at New Comer Family Funeral Home, North Syracuse. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday from 3-6 PM at the funeral home, 705 North Main Street.
