Edna Ackerman, 73, of North Syracuse, died peacefully at home on Friday after a hard fought battle with cancer. Her loving husband, family and special friends, Ken and Merril Davy from Australia, were by her side. She grew up in Lyncourt and graduated from North High School in 1950 and married Lyle Ackerman later that year. Edna was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Charles King, her brother Robert and a sister Shirley.
Edna is survived by her husband of 55 years Lyle and 5 children, Cynthia Bangson (Brad) of North Syracuse, Gail Dorner (John) of Ohio, Kathy Ackerman (Kim Hyde) of North Syracuse, Keith Ackerman (Jeffrey Wilson) of Liverpool, Karen Barnes (Mark) of North Syracuse, 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Buck (Walter) and Joyce Larkin, both of East Syracuse.
Friends may visit with her family on Monday from 3-7pm at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Services will be held on Tuesday in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rt. 31, Clay at 10:00am. Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY.
