Earl B. Hines, 81 of Manlius, passed away on August 15, 2011 at the Syracuse Home Association, Baldwinsville after a short illness.

Born in Syracuse, and raised in Cicero, he graduated from North Syracuse High School and studied accounting and business machine technology at R.I.T. in Rochester.

Earl enlisted the U.S. Army during the Korean War and utilizing his expertise in business machine calculators he served in Germany for most of his enlistment.
Following his enlistment Earl worked for the Victor Comptometer Corporation in Chicago and Rochester, NY. He retired after 21 with the New York State Thruway Authority as a service manager. Earl was part of the team that upgraded the Thruway's toll collection system from paper punch cards to a more modern computer aided system.

An avid golfer, Earl was an active member of the Cazenovia Country Club for over 30 years. He enjoyed 25 wonderful years at his summer camp on Tuscarora Lake in Erieville, NY and cherished the friendships developed there. Earl was a strong supporter of land and wildlife conservation. He was an advocate for New York State's Forever Wild Adirondack Park and a 37 year supporter of the Nature Conservancy.

Earl is survived by his brother Donald Hines and three sisters: Gwen (Les) Eastwood, Shirley (John) Yuill, Patricia Hines and seven nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
