Duane L. "Butch" Schiebler, 78, of Canastota, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Oneida Healthcare, following a brief illness.
He was born on August 5, 1944, in East Syracuse, the son of the late Fredrick and Erma (Deyo) Schiebler.
Duane lived in Bridgeport most of his life, and graduated from Chittenango High School in 1962. He has lived in Canastota for the past seven years.
He worked for Reed Paving in E. Syracuse for several years, and had previously worked for Cicero North Syracuse High School for nine years. Duane, also, operated a furniture refinishing business, The Distant Drummer, at his home for many years.
Duane enjoyed music, camping, antiques, traveling, reading and spending time with his family and pets. Duane also had a great love for the history of the Revolutionary War and spending time in Colonial Williamsburg and Mt. Vernon, VA.
He married Janice E. Kent on May 30, 1969, in N. Syracuse.
Surviving besides his wife, Janice, are: two sons, Brent and Robin Schiebler of Canastota, and Chad and Jennifer Schiebler of Kirkville; six grandchildren, Ashley Hammes, Molly Schiebler, Nathanial Schiebler, Isabella Schiebler, Cam Schiebler, and Caleb Schiebler; one brother, Darrell Schiebler of Kirkville; three sisters, Marlene "Sis" Falsey, Dawn and Terry Stone, and Sandra and Donald "Skip" Worden, all of Bridgeport; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a dear friend, Alan Sterling of Canastota. Duane was predeceased by one brother, Roland "Sonny" Schiebler; and one sister, Dorothea "Trudy" Llewellyn.
At Duane's request there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
