Dr. Warren E. Grund, 73, of Liverpool, died Wednesday surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Dr. Joseph and Yetta Grund. Born in the Bronx, he grew up in Liberty, NY.
He obtained a BA degree from SU, a Masters degree from Florida Atlantic University and a PhD in Educational Administration from Syracuse University.
The majority of Warren's career was spent in the North Syracuse School District. He was Director of Special Education, Assistant Superintendent and Acting Superintendent of Schools during his tenure. He was instrumental in the establishment of Main Street School, which still provides quality education to pre-school children with disabilities. This was the first such program in Central New York and the winner of many state and national awards. Dr. Grund finished his career as Superintendent of Schools in Peru, NY. After his retirement, he enjoyed golf, travel, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons, Herbert (Sonja), Joshua (Rosanna) and Jonathan (Sharon); three brothers, Michael (Irma), Robert (Susan) and Jeffrey (Lynn); nine grandchildren, a great grandson, several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 AM Monday at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 1-4 PM at the funeral home, 705 N. Main St.
Contributions may be made to the Francis House or to the Humane Society of CNY.
