Dr. Stephen W. Tehon

Dr. Stephen W. Tehon ("Boo") of Cicero died Friday, November 27, 2009. He was 89 years old.
Dr. Tehon was born in Shenandoah, IA, and spent most of his childhood in Urbana, IL. He served in the US Navy during World War II, retiring as a Lt. Commander. He received his BS, MS and PhD from the University of Illinois. In 1952, he moved to Syracuse to become Principal Staff Scientist for the General Electric Co, Electronics "E" Lab. He also served as a consultant to the Tecumseh Products Co, the Toshiba Co and the University of Michigan. Dr. Tehon taught as a visiting professor for Clarkson University, and Adjunct Professor for Syracuse University. He retired from GE in 1987, and continued his research through GMK Consulting.
Known for his many patents, Dr. Tehon was recognized for his expertise in the fields of Ultrasound including use in non-invasive medical diagnostics, piezo-electronic technology, delay lines, transformers and ceramics. He is listed in Who's Who in America, American Men & Women of Science, Leaders in Electronics, Who's Who in Technology and Who's Who in the East. He was an IEEE Life Fellow, member of the Acoustical Society of America, Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu, past Board member of the Technology Club of Syracuse, the Burnet Park Zoo and the Collie Club of CNY. He was an amateur photographer, a private pilot, a glider pilot, showed Collies and played in dance bands.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Betty Albright, 5 daughters, Chloe Ann O'Neil of Parishville; Susan Tehon of Saranac Lake; Becky Tehon of Brewerton; Penny O'Brien of Norfolk; and Candy Ardizzone of Clay. He is also survived by his sister Atha Tehon Thiras, nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Holiday Inn-Electronics Parkway beginning at 1 pm. A Tribute will be conducted by Dr. Tehon's Colleagues at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to a charity of one's choice.
