Dr. W. Jones

January 9, 1935 — November 26, 2020

Dr. Bruce W. Jones

Bruce was born in Brooklyn NY where he graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1953. He joined the United States Air Force shortly after, and was a Navigator until a Diabetes diagnosis grounded him. He proudly served along the East coast, readying bases for Atomic warfare. During the Billy Graham crusade in New York 1957 he was a counselor and felt called to the ministry. He graduated from Barrington College, now part of Gordon College, in Massachusetts in 1961. It was here where he met his wife Beth Bristol Jones. They were married in 1959 and enjoyed 62 years in a loving marriage and service to the Lord.

After a year of working with teens in Auburn ME, East Machias and Calais ME, he and Beth served on Word of Life Island as Unit leaders for cabin counselors.

Bruce attended and graduated from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul MN in 1965.

His first church was Bethany Baptist Church in Gardner MA, followed by a ministry at Trinity Baptist Church in Brockton MA. He was called to the denomination headquarters for Baptist General Conference (now Converg) in Arlington Heights IL for 5 years as Director of Church Growth and Evangelism. While there, he received his Doctorate of Ministry from Fuller Seminary.

Following that ministry he was called to Moody Memorial Church in Chicago to be Associate Pastor with his dear friend Dr. Erwin Lutzer.

In 1990 he came to North Syracuse Baptist Church as Senior Pastor. He retired from there in 1996 to live in Tampa FL.

However, the Lord had more plans for Bruce and Beth. They went on to serve churches in Moline IL, Omaha NE, Duxbury MA, Plymouth MA, Baldwinsville NY, and Marietta NY doing Intential Interim Pastoring.

A joy for Bruce was the opportunity to serve with the Syracuse Association of Evangelicals on two separate occasions.

In these later years he was given the privilege of teaching the Word at WMHR radio. Because of faithful friends, other stations carried his program. "Frontiers, Defending Our Freedom and Faith" played in many cities. He loved to study, research the scriptures and applied it to the challenges and concerns our country faces. Bruce was able to attend and participate in government meetings in Washington DC . He traveled and spoke at several meetings concerning the 14th amendment and our freedom to own guns. Whatever the challenge, he was eager to search the scriptures and research the concerns to encourage believers to stand strong on the Word of God. He authored the book "Minister or Manager," and was working on a second book.

Dr. Jones leaves behind his loving wife Beth of 62 years. A daughter Marilyn in Marysville WA, a son David Jones in Burdick Corporate Office, and David's wife Cheri Robbins Jones. Grandchildren Caitlinn Jones, a nurse in Strong Hospital in Rochester, Connor Jones a junior at Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester and Logan Haynes. Son Jonathan Jones of Baldwinsville. Dr. Jones has a brother Stuart Jones and his wife Gloria in Ridge NY with nephews and nieces. He leaves his brother-in-law Bill Bristol and his wife Jolene, and sister-in-law Fredericka Bristol Paddock and her husband Edward plus nieces and a nephew. Dr. Jones was predeceased by his father Stuart and mother Anne (Macintyre) Jones.

A Memorial Service is planned for Spring/Summer 2021.
