Douglas J. Cottrell. 79, of N.Syracuse died Friday at Crouse Hospital. Doug retired from General Electric in 1987 following 34 years of service as a Utility Operator. He was a very active participant in his children's activities participating as a baseball coach, football coach, scout leader and band parent. He was an avid NY Yankee and SU sports fan. He was very proud to be an 8 ½ gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross. He enjoyed his summers on the St. Lawrence River at Sand Bay. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Ellen Powers; children, Joseph of Spafford and John (Elizabeth) Cottrell of Geddes, Debbie (Bill) Dermady of Clayton and Robin (Monique Cuyler) Cottrell of Liverpool; brother, Glenn (Betty) Cottrell of Elbridge; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM on Monday with services to follow at 7 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Burial in North Syracuse Cemetery will be private.
