Douglas B. Gates

February 18, 1931 — January 14, 2021

Douglas Bernard Gates, 89, of Zephyrhills, FL, formerly of Pennellville, NY passed away January 14, 2021.

He was a 1950 graduate of North Syracuse High School and worked for many years at Crouse Hinds Co. In his later years, he owned and operated Phoenix Liquor Store in Phoenix. He was an army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5540 having served as Post Commander, as well as the Oswego County commander, and District 5 VFW achieving All State Commander. Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, camping, folks marches, and most importantly spending time with his family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Percy and Nina Gates; and his sister, Virginia Hughes.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Geraldene Davis; sons, Donald (Lyn), David (Ginny), and Thomas; five grandchildren, Krista (Lee) Jewell, Lindsay (Alexandra) Bick, Ellen Gates, Graham Gates, and Elisabeth Gates; and one great-grandson Colton Jewell; nephew, Steve (Randie) Hughes; niece, Marsha Hughes; and several cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gulfside Hospice, 2061 Collier Parkway, Land O'Lakes, Florida 34639.

Calling hours will be Sunday, January 24th, from 2-4pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St. North Syracuse, NY 13212.
