Dorothy L. Whitney, 54, of Cicero passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday surrounded by loved ones. Born in Watertown, NY, she was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. She is predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Sweeney and a brother, Heubert Sweeney.
She is survived by her husband; William "Earl" Whitney, three daughters; Tammy Perl of Syracuse, Debbie Sakonyi (Perl) of Cicero and Michelle Dunham of Lakeland, seven grandsons; Sean Merritt, Cory Merritt and Josh Merritt, Kaden Sakonyi and Dylan Sakonyi all of Cicero, Nathan Perry of Syracuse, Thomas Dunham of Lakeland, a special sister-in-law; Sharon Tyner of Kentucky, sister-in-law; Patricia Helffenstein of California, two sisters; her "sissy" Phyllis Dombrowski of Sylvan Beach and Susan Starusnak of Syracuse, a special son-in-law; Ronald Sakonyi of Cicero and several nieces and nephews.

We want you to know you will be loved by us forever and there was not one person you met who's life was not touched by you. You have given us a lifetime full of precious memories. Thank you for everything. You will remain in our hearts forever. We love you. - Your family.
Services will be held on Friday at 12 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, North Syracuse. Friends are invited to visit with her family on Friday, from 10 AM - 12 PM, before the services, at the funeral home, 705 N Main Street.
