Dorothy Lavy

Dorothy Lou Lavy, 80, of Syracuse, passed away October 13, 2024. Dorothy was born in Syracuse, New York on February 28, 1944 to the late Clarence and Harriett Smith. 

She married Jerry in 1964 and celebrated 60 years in March. She retired from Syracuse City School District as a custodian after 30+ years, and devoted her time to her family, especially her nine grandchildren. She was very handy around the house and was a great cook in between casino stints. Sunday dinners will be missed. 

She was predeceased by her brothers, Harry, Dan, Clarence, Jerome, and Frank.

 She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gerald C. Lavy; three sons, Gerald C. (Dawn) Lavy Jr., Terrence L. Lavy, Daniel A. Lavy; daughter, Carrie Mae (Patrick) O'Hara; and her grandchildren, Josh, Morgan, Drew, Jake, Nicholas, Molly, Tim, Ainsley, Noah; her sister, Clara Mae Cooper; two sisters-in-law, Angela Joel and Joan Cooper; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Calling hours are Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals - North Syracuse, 705 N. Main St, Syracuse with a service to follow.
