On Monday, September 6th, 2021, Dorothy Kathleen Houk, 94, of 211 Church Parkway, North Syracuse, passed away at Saint Josephs Hospital. Born and raised in London, England during the Second World War, she met her husband, Francis Charles Houk Jr. In Hyde Park while he was on leave in London from fighting in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
They were later married at the First Baptist Church in Syracuse in 1946.
After moving to East Lansing, Michigan so that her husband could finish attending and graduate from Michigan State University, they eventually moved back to Syracuse in 1968 where her husband joined the family business; Houk Supply Company.
Dorothy worked in sales at the Sears store in North Syracuse.
Her husband passed away in 2018 at age ninety-seven. Dorothy and Francis Jr. were married for 72 years.
Two of her three children; Steven Scott Houk and Kerrie Jeanine Houk, are deceased.
She is survived by her first born son, Francis Charles Houk III of North Syracuse; her beloved sister, Jean Hancock, of London, as well as a niece, Christina Prangnell, also of London.
Also her incredibly helpful niece, Barbara Morse Irwin of North Syracuse NY and two other nieces, Laurie Gotch and Linda Katz. And her very good friend of a half century, Jane Fisher of Pennellville, NY. A final shout-out must go to her long-term neighbors Lenny and Linda Rao for their devoted support and help over the years, especially since her husband passed.
