Dorothy Ruth Czajak

May 21, 1924 — September 25, 2018

Gold Star Mother Dorothy Czajak, 94, died at home in her sleep early Tuesday morning.

Her life had numerous hardships including growing up during the Great Depression, losing her beloved son, Danny, in Vietnam, and losing two other children, Tom and Gerri, before their time.

Yet she persevered and managed to have a positive outlook, content if her children and grandchildren were content. In the best of times, she could be found at her camp on Cross Lake in Cato, cooking and playing cards with her siblings and in-laws while her dogs Fred and Satan ran unleashed, and her husband Dan was out on the water in his motorboat pulling their water skiing grandsons.

When not at camp she was known to converse for hours with friend Josie and sister Betty on the telephone and in person. In addition to cooking golumpkis, pierogis, and kielbasa, parental duties, housekeeping, and managing the family's money, she waited tables to help make ends meet.

She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Czajak; sons, Danny and Tom; and a daughter, Gerri Howard.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith Sharp; grandsons, Jack Salisbury, Scott Sharp, Dan Czajak, Doug Czajak, and Bob Czajak; five great grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a daughter-in-law, Kathy Czajak.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, October 2, from 9-11am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY, 13212 where funeral services will be held at 11am. Interment will be made at St. Mary's Cemetery (Dewitt).
