Donald J. Thompson

February 20, 1948 — September 21, 2023

Donald J. Thompson, 75 of Mexico, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023 with his loving family by his side. Born in St. Regis, Quebec on February 20, 1948 to the late Christine Debo.

With pride, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and after several years of employment he retired from General Motors. While these moments made him proud, his true joys included going to the casinos (with his "Kemosabe"), caring for and watching his birds, spending time outside (camping), taking meticulous care of his lawn, and (his favorite) spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Paula Thompson (whom he lovingly accused of wanting to "torture him to the very end"); children, Joseph Thompson, Kevin (Darcia) Thompson, Kristi (Steven) Ross, Catherine (Bert) Loomis, Joshua Thompson, Crystal (Jon) Wood, Bianca (Bruno) Slivinski, Breanne [Jayvian] Thompson, Lisa Adams and Bill Bresnahan, and numerous foster children; 15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and sister, Anna Burkett.

Predeceased by his grandson, Julian Thomas Ross.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 2-5pm with services at 5pm. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 6-9pm at the Oswego VFW, Bronson St., Oswego.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in tribute to Julian Ross.
