Donald F. Pond, Sr., age 101, of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Helene (2014), two brothers (A. Louis, Herbert), and one sister (Charlotte), and survived by four children : Ellen, Donald Jr, Wayne, and Pamela; a granddaughter, Melanie; a brother, Richard (Theresa), in Tucson, AZ; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Mr. Pond was born in South Hammond, NY on June 7, 1921 to Fred and Caroline May (Baratier) Pond. He grew up on a farm in Rodman, NY and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving with the 8th Air Force in Northern Ireland, England, Wales, France, and Germany.
After the war he made a living driving trucks and buses, finally retiring in 1985 after 20 years with the U.S. Post Office.
Among his favorite pastimes were tending his flower garden and visiting the North Country sites of his childhood.
He read the Bible every day and trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ.
