Dilbera "Tina" Malelis, 89, of Clay, NY, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 29th. She was born in Proti-Florina, Greece and immigrated to the United States on December 21, 1968. She worked for Nettleton Shoe Company for 12 years. Tina enjoyed crocheting and gardening with her late husband, Stefanos. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tina was predeceased by her husband, Stefanos; parents, Demetrios and Naumka Christou; sister, Vicki (Sam) Pappas; brother, Nick Christou; sister-in-law, Dorothea Sourdos; as well as brother-in-law, Pandelis and sister-in-law, Demetra Malelis from Greece.
She is survived by her son and primary caregiver, Evagelos (Zoe) Malelis; son, Vasilios "Bill" (Anthoula) Malelis and her daughter, Paraskevi "Patty" (David) Birklin; grandchildren, James Malelis, Peter (Nicole) Malelis, Stefanos "Steven" Malelis, Evangelia "Angela" Malelis, Timothy (Chelsea Kleeh) Birklin, Daniel (Kimberly) Birklin and Michael (Claire) Birklin; great-grandchildren, Anthony, and Nicholas Malelis, Corbin, Nolan, Evelyn and Lilly Birklin; brothers, Anastasios (Angeliki) Christou and Pavlos (Demitra) Christou, both of Liverpool, NY and brother, Simione (Elefteria) Christou of Greece; sister-in-law, Daphne Christou of Buffalo, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7th 9:30am-11:30am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals. The funeral service will follow immediately after at 12pm on January 7th at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd in Syracuse with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church.
Gathering size within our chapels will be based on the most current NYS occupancy requirements. Masks are required and social distancing is to be observed inside and outside of our chapels.
