Dennis C. "Sarge" Eggert, born on February 17, 1949, peacefully passed away on April 19, 2025, with his daughter by his side listening to The Beatles.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, known for his warm spirit and kind heart.
Sarge dedicated many years of his life to the Syracuse Developmental Center, where he worked diligently until his retirement in 2015.
A true testament to his personality, Sarge was well-known for his “Heart of Gold.” He embraced life with enthusiasm and his love for sports was evident. A devoted fan of Duke basketball and Penn State football, he spent many joyful hours cheering for his teams. His personal joys were anchored deeply in family as he truly cherished the time spent with his grandson, Andrew, whom he delighted in spoiling. Sarge often found pleasure in simple gatherings, including visits to Curley's Tavern in the Valley, where he reveled in storytelling and sharing laughter with friends.
Sarge proudly served his country as a Vietnam War Veteran in the U.S. Army, where he was honorably discharged.
Sarge is survived by his daughter, January (Mark) Rendes; grandson, Andrew Rendes; and his nephew, Nathan Harwood. He is also survived by his nieces, Jennifer Harwood and Melissa Fisher, and his best friend's, John (Mary) Rozycko. And several Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles F. Eggert; mother, Eleanor V. Eggert and two sisters, Mary Fisher and Barbara McDonald.
The legacy of Dennis C. "Sarge" Eggert continues in the hearts of those who knew and loved him for his generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
