David "Red" White, passed away on May 17, 2021 at the age of 87 in Syracuse, NY.
He was born April 20, 1934 to David G White and Phyllis Gross White.
His battle with medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile.
Dave grew up in Cazenovia and graduated high school in 1953, where he met many friends that he would keep his entire life.
He joined the army in 1954 and proudly served his country, while he was stationed in Korea. On his return, he attended LSU and then returned to the Syracuse area.
He found his calling when he started working at a grocery store. This led him to being a manager at a grocery store in Phoenix, NY, the IGA in the village of Camillus, NY and then the owner and manager of Smith's market in Cicero,NY. He was very dedicated to his job and cared about his employees and his community. If the store was open, you would surely see Dave working hard at any job that needed to be done.
After his retirement, he loved to golf with his friends, have family and friends to his house for a cookout and play cards and dice games. Dave also loved to travel and went on many adventures around the world, with his sister Mary Lou and nieces Karen and Kathy.
We will all miss his great qualities, sense of humor, story telling, ability to debate, dedication and generosity to family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Jami White Dippold ( Bill Danforth), son Michael White ( Carrie French), grandson Allen Dippold, sister Mary Lou McPherson, ex wife Bonnie White and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Amber Crews, at Brookdale of Liverpool, who cared for our dad and became part of our family. During the difficult times of this past year, when family was restricted from visiting, Amber would keep us updated and kept us in contact with him, by phone and video and was there when we couldn't be. We appreciate everyone at Brookdale and the care given, these past few years.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, May 21 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 705 N Main St, N Syracuse,NY.
We will have a celebration of Dave's life on Friday evening May 21, details will be provided at the funeral home.
